The Swiss castle of Habsburg which gives its name to this royal dynasty, is the starting point of a route that crosses the Alps and eastern Austria, where Vienna stands as imperial capital. The Turkish siege of the Austrian capital became one of the highlights of Charles Vs reign, when he defeated the Ottoman threat and restrained the expansion of the Turks from the Balkans. Innsbruck, one of the Emperor's favourites, and the Bavarian capital Munich are included in this route.
